here is a 411: if you are a perfectionist reader stop now, otherwise this an outstanding story. I'm already on book three and I started reading them today. The negatives: sometimes knowing which character is talking; happens a lot in the first book but evens out in the second, still happens but not as much. Sometimes inserts the wrong character name while they are talking or thinking. I do like that this is from an multiple characters point of view, but it can be difficult occasionally to follow because the transition is not always seamless. The grammar is ok but not perfect but did not take away from the story. The PROS: love the story line, love that is a continuation with lots of laughs and action. I'm looking forward to see where the author is going with this. I'm stopping now to read the third book, but because I'm digging this author I wanted to send a shout out!Update: I have read books 3 & 4 and a lot of the issues I had with the first two books have been addressed. 3 & 4 is so much smoother to follow. I am seriously enjoying this story. I about to start on book 5 and hope to finish before bed tonight, so this does not follow me to work tomorrow lol!
I love a good story especially if it can make me laugh, cry, cheer, and a host of other emotions. So far in this series I have hit them all. What I especially like is if I can guess where the author is going. I'm not looking for a mystery, I'm looking for adventure and I get that with this story. It has all my favorite types of characters, supernatural, alien, military, strong moral characters, kick ass H&h, and a team of awesome supporting sidekicks. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I have!

Love Lost The Kurtherian Gambit Book 3 edition by Michael Anderle Ellen Campbell Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
It must be difficult for an author to constantly provide entertainment while balancing character arcs, believable tech, suspension of disbelief, humor and action.
It doesn't feel like Mr Anderle has much difficulty, however.
Usually, when an author is constantly introducing new characters and advancing plot, it is difficult to keep everything straight. However, in this series, you develop a closeness with the characters with minimal rereading.
This, thankfully, is not a series that throws cliffhangers and monkey wrenches into the story in order to keep you reading. The story, the characters are compelling enough as they are. Enough so that I've read these first three books within a period of 72 hours.
There were still several editing errors that caused me to go back and reread a passage because something was off. They were minor inconveniences and therefore required no reduction of my rating, but I would strongly suggest to Mr Anderle that he rely more on the fresh eyes of a hired editor than on either a program or his own editing as the fact is, an author knows what he's tying to convey and has a tendency to read things as he wants them to read instead of how they are, actually, written.
Done with Book 3, onwards to Book 4. Thought I'd pause a bit and post online on just how much I'm enjoying Michael Anderle's Kurtherian Gambit series. This is just like when I binged thru Laurence Dahners's Ell Donsaii series, when I couldn't stop reading one after the next. That took me, oh, I dunno, three weeks, maybe, with its thirteen volumes. I understand the Kurtherian stories comprise of fourteen original volumes (so far) and a batch of spin-offs. Meaning I've got weeks and weeks of fun reading ahead of me.
Backstory? Bethany Anne Reynolds had inherited a fatal blood condition that killed off her mother at 28 and would kill Bethany Anne in six months' time. But then she was offered one last-ditch attempt to cheat death. It's to do with that vault and the mysterious note in it dating back to World War II and calling upon the U.S. military to redeem a longstanding debt of honor.
The UnknownWorld exists, a hidden community of supernatural creatures composed of werewolves and vampires. An ancient family of vampires has set itself as THE authorities in the UnknownWorld, with the unforgiving patriarch, Michael, having reigned with an iron fist for a thousand years. And, always, the family's had an operative to enforce their strictures and to combat the Forsaken, these rabid vampires rarin' to lay waste to the world and treat humans like cattle.
But the family's operative had just expired violently, and so the urgent need for a replacement conveyed by way of a decades-old note. Will Bethany Anne survive Michael's call for new blood? Obviously. Lookee, she's in her third book already. Love Lost. This one opens with one of Bethany Anne's enemies striving for a more subtle attack. In lieu of a frontal assault, a dear friend from her former life is targeted. That doesn't sit well with our gal.
So, other folks have already brought up the Ell Donsaii books in making mention of the Kurtherian Gambit series, and that's a valid comparison. There are certain similarities in how Michael Anderle and Laurence Dahners go about their storytelling. The most obvious one is that they prop their heroines way up on that pedestal. Both Ell and Bethany Anne are devastatingly gorgeous and invincible, and all those who come into their sphere of influence are rendered super-awed and fanatically devoted. While there is no supernatural aspect in Ell Donsaii's story arc, both girls' world-building shares a considerable sc-fi element. I'm intrigued by Anderle's take on vampires, how, when he launched this series with Death Becomes Her, vamps seem rooted in a traditional origin, but, then, chunks into that book, he throws us a curve.
Whereas Ell is unfailingly polite, Bethany Anne is far from. And while I love Ell's "sirring" and "ma'aming" everyone, there's also guilty pleasure in Bethany Anne's proclivity for colorful language. To paraphrase the blurb, she doesn't loathe cussing, just uninspired cussing. She does come up with the most creative turns of phrase. Anderle's writing style is that of a runaway freight train. The pace at which Bethany Anne is consolidating her power base is insane. Granted, she has to move fast. She knows about the larger threat looming out there. Third book into the series, I wonder how much longer it'll be before Bethany Anne's focus turns to what's out there beyond Earth?
For now, Bethany Anne's got her work cut out trying to curtail the Forsaken's power grab in light of Michael's absence. And, by the way, that's one plot thread Anderle's stayed away from. Is the vamp patriarch Michael dead or deliberately staying away? And if you'd been wondering if we'll ever hear from Bethany Anne's dad, the crusty General, ever again, well, this book is where you find out. I'm sort of glad that I'd come to this series late, because I don't have to wait as long in between books, although, I get that Anderle churns out volumes like they were being produced off a conveyer belt in some processing plant. Maybe that's why the more than occasional grammatical snafu. His editor just can't keep up. Me, I'm reading these books one after the other, with not much lag in between. It helps me to keep track of the sprawling cast that Anderle's introduced so far. No, the Kurtherian Gambit series isn't some literary tour-de-force. Oprah ain't about to select it for her book club. Anderle admitted in his afterword that he didn't intend to write great literature but, rather, FUN stories. And that's what this series is, a fun foray into escapism. In a way, in tone and in-your-face bravado, it hearkens back to those rollicking pulp serials of the '40s and '50s and men's action adventure reads from the '70s and '80s that I used to eat up when I was a kid. There's crazy sh-- going down and wild combat sequences and a protagonist that would've taken on the Mack Bolans and the Richard Camellions and Remo Williams and handed their asses to them. Okay, maybe not Remo.
